Why the Sandia Mountains are named Sandia

Mr. Bill Day, a former ET1 USN, lives east of the Sandia Mountains in Sandia Park, NM. He took the pictures below from his home at different times of the year during the eleven years he has lived there. The pictures show why the Sandias (watermellon) were named as they were and one reason why Bill lives in New Mexico. Thanks for the wonderful pictures Bill!
